Why in the year 2005 do we still have sex slaves?

I read today in the British Times a story about 19 men arrested for trafficing sex slaves. According to the article, it is not uncommon.

Now, I find a story that hits closer to home involving the U.S. The story is at: http://www.insightmag.com/main.cfm/include/detail/storyid/163052.html

The above picture is from that site with the caption underneath stating:
Americans were seen in Bosnia as defenders of the children, as shown here, until U.S. contractors began buying children as personal sex slaves.

This completely sickens me. What in the world gives one person the right to buy someone else? And why is this allowed to happen?

It does not make sense to me that people scream and yell about a woman's right to choose, yet, nothing is done for a child once the child is born. Who is screaming and yelling for these innocents?
